CHRISTMAS IS NOT A TIME FOR DRUG ABUSE-REV.DEEGBE

A member of the Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) Rev. Dr Fred Deegbe has admonished the youth of the country to refrain from engaging in all manner of nefarious activities that would hinder their health during the yuletide.

According to him, most youth during Christmas period take advantage to indulge in promiscuous acts especially drugs mainly to ‘free them’ or ‘go high’ at most entertainment joints.

These acts, he added leads to contradiction of STDs such as HIV and AIDS as result of engaging in unprotected sex, road carnage, armed robbery, which have serious consequences on the society at large.

Rev. Dr Deegbe who is also the immediate General Secretary of the Ghana Christian Council made this observation during NACOB’s maiden ‘Nine Lessons and Carols’ event which was held at the forecourt of the Narcotics Control Board Headquarters on Monday 23rd December 2013.

“Christmas is a special occasion which [w] use to reflect upon the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ by showing care, love, extend assistance to the needy rather than engaging in unnecessary activities such as going to beaches, clubbing, throwing big parties for people to wine and dine, and it is time Ghanaians refrain from that’. He noted.

He called on all, especially, pastors, media practitioners, opinion leaders to use the Christmas festivity to educate the youth on the dangers of drugs use to the human health, saying drug abuse must be addressed dispassionately.

“The fight against drug trade is not only the course of NACOB, but would entreat all the rank and file of the various agencies responsible for the collective welfare of mankind to join hands to fight against this canker which has taken away the lives of innocent ones and rendered others redundant”.

Sheikh Ishaak Nuamah, a member of the Governing Board urged members of staff to remain focused and be disciplined in their work dispensation to help raise the image of the board and encouraged members to keep it up.

Mrs Akua Amartey, a Deputy CEO of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and a member of the Governing Board of NACOB praised staff members for their desire to fight the drug problems faced by the country.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of NACOB Mr. Yaw Akrasi-Sarpong commended members of staff of the Board for their dedication to duty and their resolve to serve the country with the collective aim of combating the drug trade.

Mr. Akrasi-Sarpong further stated that the board is committed to ensure that the fight against illicit drug trade and usage is totally eradicated and erase the bad tag of Ghana as a transit hub for narcotic drugs from source countries like Brazil, Peru, and Colombia to Europe as well as America.

The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Naval Captain Baffour Assasie Gyimah (Rtd) in his remarks urged officers to remain focused and be mindful of the tenets of their loyalty to the nation with regards to fighting the drug trade.

He hailed the staff for their cooperation and hard work and expressed his hope that a lot of maximum work would be done to salvage the alarming rate of drug usage in the country in the coming years.

CHRIST THE SAVIOR MISSING IN "SILENT NIGHT"

5th grade pupils of kings park intermediate school in Long Island (NY) beautifully sang " Silent Night " without christian words like " Christ the savior, Virgin mother and holy infant" at the school end of year Christmas carol.
The reason for altering the song, organisers explained,it was to avoid offending non-christians of the school.
Contrary to the intention of their actions, many parents were upset to hear the children sing an altered version of the popular chritmas song. Some of the angered parents reportedly walked out of the performance.
Many others expressed their disappointment at the school authourities for taking such actions without taking into consideration the feelings of christians but only focusing on non-christians.
" they could have chosen other sircular christmas song if indeed they meant not to offend any religion.instead of editing the original lyrics of the song and making it look like there is something wrong with it" a concerned parent
Shared her toughts on the issue with Maame Afua.
However, kings park school supritendent and the principal of the Ralph J.Osgood Intermediate school have since apolozised, admitting it was a mistake to edit the song and promised it wont happen again. -CBS NEW YORK.

NATURE SALUTES NELSON MANDELA.

Today the man described as the greatest freedom fighter of the 20th and the 21st century lay in state recieving his last respect for good work done. Madiba as his people affectionately call him lived his life as a unifyer and indeed continue to do so even in death. People from different class, colour, size, profession, age, race etc etc are joining the long winding queue to bid this world icon fare thee well.Heaven open with heavy down pour during his memorial service.

In the Union building in Pretoria, the nation's capital, where he was sworn in as South Africa's first black president in 1994, his still and cold body lay in a casket only as mortal remains. But in all nature on the day of his memorial service opened-up the heavens and brought down heavy rain, today as the sunset, a beautiful shades of colours appeared in the sky as a gaint rainbow hanged up in Pretoria where he laid.
As custom demands, the public viewing ends before sunset then he is taken indoors and brought out the next morning. In Nelson Mandela 's case he will be taken to a military hospital overnight for the final public viewing tomorrow.

I WAS SEEING ANGELS AT THE STADIUM...SIGN INTERPRETER

Thamsanqa Janjie, the sign language interpreter hired by the planning committe for Mandela's memorial service came under serious backlash for his performance as a sign language interpreter.
Various groups including the South Africa Translator's Institute complained about his poor performance, infact those who understand signing say he was faking and did not make any sense.
In an attempt to do damage control, he has come out with conflicting explanation that raises more questions.
Speaking to CNN, Thamsanqa said he is a fully qualified interpreter and has been trusted in the past with other similar task with no fault. He referred to his portfolio and said he is a champion at what he does.Although he claimed to be suffering from schizaphrenia, a seriuos mental illness which is controllable and he was on medication, Thamsanqa reportedly refused to provide details about how he was awarded the job for such an important event. What seemed a mear embarrasment to him and the organizers at the begining, took another turn with question about the security risk involved by endangering the life of the many heads of state who stood just few feets away from this man who happens to be mentally unstable has he claims.
While blowing his horn as a champion in the CNN interview, he told NBC News that he was hallucinating at in the course of the service " ...and immediately I see angels coming to the stadium...and sometimes things like chasing me".
Really!!! If he was seeing angels or was being chased, what has that got to do with his poor signing?
Was he telling his audience the things he was seeing by signing wrongly or better still why didnt he run away from the chase. There are more questions unanswered.
We wait to hear from the South African Government as they conduct their investigations.

GHANA MOURNS WITH SOUTH AFRICA

As a mark of respect and in honour of Nelson Mandela,Vice President,Mr Amissah-‐Arthur has directed that all flags in the country fly at half mast until Sunday, 15th December, 2013 when Mr Mandela is laid to rest.

He further expressed the country's deepest sympathy to South Africans and the Mandela family 'on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Government and the people of ghana, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the people of South Africa, the mandela family as well as Mandela's admirers around the world'he said.

His Excellency Amissah-Arthur further noted that Mandela was an epitome of forgiveness and healing icon in the struggle for the liberation of his people and Africa. His death marks the end of an era; an era of freedom fighters like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyetta and Julius Nyerere.

NANA ADDO; MADIBA-THE NOBLEST AFRICAN OF THEM ALL

Just as thousands of people across the world from all walks of life continue to mourn and celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela who is described among many accolades as the "World Leader", his fellow African leaders join in as well.
One of such is Nana Akuffo Addo. In a press statement issued in Accra by the second-time Presidential candidate for the opposition NPP, Nana Addo described Mr. Mandela as a matured leader who redeemed South Africa with his wisdom, tactics, experience and patriotism at the age of 76.

FULL STATEMENT BELOW.

MADIBA – THE NOBLEST AFRICAN OF THEM ALL
A Tribute by Nana Akufo-Addo To Nelson Mandela (18/07/1918 – 5/12/2013)
I join the rest of humanity in commemorating the life of the greatest African that the world has ever known, a man who managed the unique global feat of being loved, admired, respected and idolised by the greatest number of the world’s population in the course of his lifetime – Nelson Mandela.

A lifetime of struggle for equality, freedom, justice and progress, he was the greatest hero of the African liberation movement, a universal symbol of courage, conviction, and commitment. Not for him the language of freedom, but the actions of tyranny. His unshakeable belief in democracy and dogged determination to build a genuine multiracial democracy in South Africa gave him, after nearly three decades of harsh and cruel imprisonment, the moral authority to embrace a policy of national reconciliation which enabled South Africa to turn its back on civil war after the senseless horrors and cruelties of apartheid.

He was, indeed, the outstanding statesman of Africa’s history, who laid a foundation of respect for human rights and individual liberties, the rule of law, and love of nation in the governance of South Africa. That will be his lasting contribution to the future of his country and, indeed, of the entire African continent.

At the age of 76, he agreed to become the first black leader of democratic South Africa because the moment required his experience, his maturity, his wisdom, his tact, his patriotism, his popularity, his compassion, his conviction and his vision. He could have gone on to stand for re-election and win an overwhelming endorsement of the South African people in 1999. Yet, like Washington at the beginning of the American Republic, he chose to handover to another lieutenant of the freedom struggle, Thabo Mbeki. In a continent of life presidents, this was an act worthy of emulation.

He showed other leaders what can be achieved even in one term of office if a leader chooses to focus on the bigger picture - the greater good - in doing the right thing that will stand the test of time and not just to survive an electoral cycle.

He used his term in office to build an enduring one-nation platform of stability to guarantee the progress of his nation. The challenge now is how leaders after him can build on the platform that

WHITE HOUSE LOWERS FLAG FOR MANDELA.

The seat of Government of America; White House has lowered the national flag as a tribute to Nelson Mandela who died today.
Later this afternoon President Barack Obama delivered a speech of condolence to the family and people of South Africa following the demise of Africa’s greatest freedom fighter and an epitome of peace and justice.
All government buildings, military facilities and U.S embassies all over the world have also been ordered by President Obama to fly their flag half-staff through to monday.

President Obama’s full speech below…
At his trial in 1964, Nelson Mandela closed his statement from the dock saying: “I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

And Nelson Mandela lived for that ideal, and he made it real. He achieved more than could be expected of any man. Today, he has gone home. And we have lost one of the most influential, courageous, and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this Earth. He no longer belongs to us – he belongs to the ages.

Through his fierce dignity and unbending will to sacrifice his own freedom for the freedom of others, Madiba transformed South Africa – and moved all of us. His journey from a prisoner to a president embodied the promise that human beings – and countries – can change for the better.

His commitment to transfer power and reconcile with those who jailed him set an example that all humanity should aspire to, whether in the lives of nations or our own personal lives. And the fact that he did it all with grace and good humour, and an ability to acknowledge his own imperfections, only makes the man that much more remarkable. As he once said, “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.”

I am one of the countless millions who drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s life. My very first political action, the first thing I ever did that involved an issue or a policy or politics, was a protest against apartheid. I studied his words and his writings. The day that he was released from prison gave me a sense of what human beings can do when they’re guided by their hopes and not by their fears. And like so many around the globe, I cannot fully imagine my own life without the example that Nelson Mandela set, and so long as I live I will do what I can to learn from him.

To Graca Machel and his family, Michelle and I extend our deepest sympathy and gratitude for sharing this extraordinary man with us. His life’s work meant long days away from those who loved him the most. And I only hope that the time spent with him these last few weeks brought peace and comfort to his family.

To the people of South Africa, we draw strength from the example of renewal, and reconciliation, and resilience that you made real. A free South Africa at peace with itself – that’s an example to the world, and that’s Madiba’s legacy to the nation he loved.

We will not likely see the likes of Nelson Mandela again. So it falls to us as best we can to forward the example that he set: to make decisions guided not by hate, but by love; to never discount the difference that one person can make; to strive for a future that is worthy of his sacrifice.

For now, let us pause and give thanks for the fact that Nelson Mandela lived – a man who took history in his hands, and bent the arc of the moral universe toward justice. May God bless his memory and keep him in peace.

TAMALE HOSPITAL NEEDS ATTENTION.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital which serves as the main state run referral medical center for the three Northern Regions and the third Teaching hospital in Ghana is in a poor state and needs urgent rehabilitation.
A news report by Peace FM 's Northern Regional correspondent,Kwabena Ntow indicates that the general condition of the hospital is in bad shape as most of the madical equipments at the hospital are worn out ;posing danger to both patients and health workers.
Citing the morgue as an example, he said out of the 18 mortuary refrigerators, only 3 is functioning, the other 15 have broken down for sometime now. He said the situation has created serious congestion and at the time of filing the news report,10 bodies were lying on the bare floor, something the morgue attendants describe as normal because it is a daily occurance. Compounding the situate is inadequate water supply and lack of basic medical tools such as gloves, this they said is hindering quality health care delivery.Authorities he spoke to are therefore appealing to the government to take immediate action to intervene because they fear for an out bteak of a pandemic.

AMERICA IS GRATEFUL

It is the eve of Thanksgiving and indeed everything around show the spirit of gratitude. People are feeding the poor, visiting the sick and celebrating life just to say "Thank You"
I find it very humbling to know that United States although a supper power in the world will pause and show appreciation despite all the trouble facing the nation.
Thanksgiving is aspecial ooccasion or like a festival which is about showing appreciation to one another and altimately to the most high God. It also celebrates life and any act of kindness from the family, community and at the national level but it is largely based on family gathering.
Thankgiving is the time of the year every American both old and young look forward to celebrate and it is seen as the biggest holiday in every last week of November aside Christmas.
What makes this occassion quite interesting is the use of turkey as the main meal.
Infact almost every woman I spoke to as of this evening had bought her turkey already. Every home is expected to cook a meal made with turkey, granmothers, mothers and wifes who do not cook on thanksgiving to invite the family for a meal for no reason might be considered as " irresponsible" I am tempted to say that if there is a day once in the life of any American woman to cook out of the 365 days in the year, then it is on thanksgiving. No matter how small or big sharing a meal on this day makes it complete.
Indeed the nation maybe going through difficult time with issues such as gun-voilence, natural disastets, homeless people roaming the streets yet looking beyound there are acts of kindness being done by people each and every day showing appreciation for such moment is a great thing.
Like Oprah Winfrey said "Be thankful for what you have; you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never ever have enough"
So if for nothing at all, once there is life, then there is the need to show appreciation.
I take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for patronising this blog and following me too.
Happy thanksgiving to you all.

FEMALE POLITICIAN DIES IN CHILD DELIVERY

43 year old Mrs.Anastasia Wiredu Mensah died in the early hours of thursday after giving birth to twins at the government hospital in Prestea.

According to media reports, the two babies are in stable condition and are under observation at the hospital.
The cause of death is not known at the moment.

Madam Anastasia Mensah was the 2012 Parliamentary candidate for the opposition party NPP for Prestea Huni Valley Constituency in the Western Region of Ghana.

Her constituency chairman described the death as a great loss to the party.
Despite all efforts by government and non-governmental organizations including international institutions to curb this unfortunate menace, still maternal mortality continues to be a nightmare for every potential mother.
It actually knows no bounds as both the elites and the illiterate as well as the haves and have not are all at risk.
It is sad for a woman to die in the course of giving life to another human being.
Pregnant women in Ghana do not only have to deal with the biological and emotional trauma associated with pregnancy but also have to carry the burden of whether or not they will survive during and even after birth.
Until we wake up one day to hear maternal mortality is no more a threat to the Ghanaian woman and in fact African woman,to be pregnant although is natural right for women,it remains a big deal and a serious risk for all parties involved.

GHANA FACES ‘CIVIL WAR’ IN 2016 UNLESS…

A pressure group named Coalition for Free, Fair and Transparent Elections (COFFTRE) says Ghanaians have lost hope in the judiciary especially when it comes to electoral matters ‘ Too often we hear people saying ‘no court in 2016’. If care is not taken, no political party would be interested in solving any election dispute in Court in 2016. This perception is further strengthened by the over 30 parliamentary disputes which are locked up at various stages at the High Court in relation to the 2012 elections”.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the group to draw the attention of the Electoral Commission ( EC) to certain issues such as over voting and voting without biometric verification to avoid another electoral court dispute in 2016.
According to the Coalition EC Ghana faces an eminent civil war in 2016 if EC continues to allow electoral mal-practices in the country.

Below is the full speech

PRESS STATEMENT BY
COALITION FOR FREE, FAIR AND TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS (COFFTRE)
GHANA FACES ‘CIVIL WAR’ IN 2016 UNLESS ELECTORAL COMMISSION DEMONSTRATESA ‘GLASS HOUSE EFFECT’.

One of the components of democracy is elections. From a political point of view, democracy is a system of government in which political leaders are chosen in regular, free, fair and transparent elections. Unfortunately, Ghana is likely to face ‘civil war’ in the 2016 elections because Ghanaians have lost faith in the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
In spite of the Constitutional Instruments C.I 75 which was laid before parliament for consideration and approval, as well as the existing 1992 constitution which guides the Electoral Commission to conduct elections in this country, the EC chose to use its whims and caprices to conduct the 2012 elections which resulted in many infractions across the country.
To our amazement, despite admissions by the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Afari Gyan, on statutory violations and omissions during the cross examination at the Supreme Court, which could have overturned the results, the Supreme Court saw nothing wrong with Voting without biometric verification, Over voting, No Signature, Duplicate Serial numbers and so on, which suffered the dismissal of the land mark petition by the nine Justices of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
This ruling, which has become law, can be interpreted that, Voting without biometric verification, Over voting, No Signature, Duplicate Serial numberswould be allowed in the 2016 elections. Without doubt, such a scenario would portend that we are dealing with over 26000 flashpoints in election 2016. Note, not potential flashpoints, but actual flash points.
It is in this direction that we have come together as a Coalition to push forward an agenda that would ensure an election that Ghanaians can live with in 2016. The Coalition intends to rescue Ghanaians from very likely war in 2016.
In that direction, the Coalition for Free, Fair and Transparent Elections is calling on the EC to grant Ghanaians certain immediate reliefs.
1. The EC must create a ‘Glass House Effect’ in its operations. By Glass House Effect, we mean that the EC must grant the fullest, 100% access to all its decisions, documents and records and the rationale for taking such decisions. It must be like a glass house, into which every Ghanaian who is interested can look at any time to establish what is going on. We would demand a regime of ‘no secrets’ at the EC.
2. The Coalition demands from the Electoral Commission within two weeks, to publish its itinerary or roadmap leading up to election 2016. By this we mean that the EC must publish its operations calendar, such as when it would conduct registration, when registration would be completed, when the final register would be ready, and when this register would be made available to all players, including all members of the general public. It also includes the provision and publication, for the benefit of the general public, complete samples of all material for use during elections.
3. The EC must agree that all its decisions would be arrived at only after the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) has come into agreement, as to the mode and nature of documentation for employment in every aspect of election 2016. The EC must give complete undertaken that it would not employ any item, document, machinery or any other material without approval by parties to the election.
It is the intention of the Coalition that these demands would become the reality. In that direction, we give the EC one month to tell Ghanaians what it intends to do about the demands stated above. Failure to engage us on these demands would lead to further action on our part.
In the meantime, the Coalition is calling on members of the general public desirous of saving Ghana from imminent war in 2016 to join our membership.
It is now clear that Ghanaians have lost hope in the judiciary at least when it comes to electoral matters. Too often we hear people saying ‘no court in 2016’. If care is not taken, no political party would be interested in solving any election dispute in Court in 2016. This perception is further strengthened by the over 30 parliamentary disputes which are locked up at various stages at the High Court in relation to the 2012 elections. We ask, can we really call upon dissatisfied candidates to go to court in 2016, giving the history of the Isaac Amoo case, the presidential election petition hearing and the pace of the parliamentary disputes? The refusal by candidates to go before the courts would only increase the pressure at the polling stations and collation centres in 2016.
To prevent real trouble, we must all begin to work now.
That is why we are calling for membership across Ghana. This process belongs to Ghanaians.
Finally, the coalition has the intent of fielding members to the over 26000 polling stations across the country to monitor and observe the 2016 elections. We are therefore calling on well meaning Ghanaians for assistance to recue Ghana from going to ‘war’.Only Ghanaians can prevent this ‘war’ therefore all must come on board.
Signed
Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie (Convenor)
Joseph Otoo (National Coordinator)

KEEP GHANA CLEAN IN MEMORY OF ALIU MAHAMA.

Aliu Mahama will be much happier in his grave if programmes marking his one year anniversary celebration included an activity from his ANTI-IDISCIPLINE INITIATIVE.

As a disciplinarian and principled statesman, the late Vice President Aliu Mahama under the Kufour administration launched an anti-indiscipline initiative in May 2002 which included ‘keep Ghana clean campaign” and tree planting exercise. Before the introduction of this initiative, it used to be very common to see trash flying out of cars as passengers indiscriminately and carelessly throw out filth on the street. Pedestrian were no exception of this misbehavior. Coupled with this bad attitude was how common it was to see people urinating anyhow and anywhere publicly.

Aliu Mahama’s Keep Ghana Clean Campaign with series of educative media and public announcements created the awareness of proper waste disposal. This campaign made it some sort embarrassing for people to openly liter the streets. It also made Ghanaians to be each other’s keeper by drawing the attention of others who ignorantly throw trash in the streets. Under the same initiative in September 2002, he led a team of delegation to plant trees in Accra to kick of his 7-year National Tree Planting Exercise. This according to him was to check the rate at which the country's vegetation was being depleted in order to prevent an environmental disaster.
So how come his one year anniversary program listed series of activities such as health-walk, public lecture, showing of his life documentary, a launch of a foundation in his name as well as holding of Moslem and Christian prayers but did not include any of these very remarkable projects which are of great importance to the country especially now that Ghana seems to have lost touch with sanitation problems.

Public lecture in his honour is good but for how long are we going to continue delivering long lectures and propound big policies at the least opportunity. Let us walk the talk with action because action they say speaks lauder than words.

AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SPEAKS ON PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION IN GHANA.

The Education and Gender Specialist for African Development Programme ( ADP) Ms. Elsie Odonkor is calling for a national policy which ensures that every primary classroom block built by the District Assembly includes at least one room for either a nursery or kindergarten.

She explained that such policy will promote access to early childhood education especially in the rural areas. Ms. Odonkor highlighted that statistically 70% of early childhood centers in the country are being run and controlled by the private sector, and such centers comes with high cost to most parents. Adding that this largely restrict access to quality pre-school education since majority of Ghanaians cannot afford the higher cost of these private schools but have no choice than to over burden the limited 30% controlled by Government. As a result making available a policy for more rooms in every primary school will go a long way to enhance quality pre-school education for all.
She also stressed the need for District Assemblies to provide sponsorships for certain number of interested students from their localities who wants to be trained as Teachers so they can filled-up in areas within the communities that are in need of Teachers and this she says will solve the 12,000 shortfall of Pre-school Teachers needed nationwide.
In a humble appeal, she called on the Ministry of education to adopt a proper monitory of early childhood development model since the current monitoring center at Kanda-Accra is woefully inadequate. Ms. Elsie Odonkor made this known in a newsletter issued by ADP.

WHAT KIND OF PRESIDENT DO GHANAIANS WANT?

Critics of President John Dramini Mahama’s decision of firing Victorial Hammah as Deputy Communication Minister should come again.

A minister of state not just any other person is heard in a phone conversation of how she intends to make money from politic because according to her it is very easy to control powers in her party with money as well as vilifying her fellow Minister by insulting her intergrity . She was also heard saying her appointment was solid way back before NDC even came to power. Then the President who appointment her proves he is not controlled by anyone, take steps by terminating her appointment and people including some members of his party are complaining that the decision was harsh.

Before this “Vickyleaks” saga, the President had been under serious fire from the public over growing corruption concerns in the country. There were several calls on him to take pragmatic steps in dealing with corruption. Now he takes actions over a Minister who says she intends to milk the nation and as usual of Ghanaians we hear chiefs and party supporters calling on him to temper mercy with justice.

I am not surprised about this hypocritical attitude of Ghanaians because most of us have short memories. All we know is to talk and the next day we forget about what happened. Let us not forget that President Mahama earlier pardoned this same Victoria Hammah for embarrassing the country by publicly complaining on stage that the content of her speech had been change, when she was supposed to deliver an address at a function related to her Ministry. As a result, she failed to do justice to that assignment at the expense of the country. The President, in the view of many at the time should have terminated her appointment for that show of incompetence but did not do so. She got away with that. Wasn’t that enough? That was her first chance so people should stop saying firing her was too hasty.

Sometimes I wonder what we want as Ghanaians. The same people lambasted the late President Mills for issuing warnings instead of sacking those Customs and Immigration Officers who were caught on camera receiving bribes and duping the nation in an investigation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas. In the same vain Prof. Mills was called all sorts of names when he did not sack the managers at the Osu Children’s Home when they were also caught on camera maltreating the children entrusted in their care. So what kind of leader do Ghanaians actually want?

I am not in any sense saying it is right to secretly record somebody’s private life neither am I condoning betrayal but in my opinion, relieving Victoria Hamah off her post is in the right direction. It is also in her own interest to step back and come again that is if she wants to.

Victoria Hamah is an intelligent woman. Knowing her back in 2005 as the Women’s Commissioner for the National Union Of Ghana Student (NUGS), her contribution towards the advancement of women empowerment at the student front were enormous. However, her take in national politics needs more experience and probably this particular saga is one the experience.

MICHELLE KNIGHT...ONCE A VICTIM, NOW A VICTOR.

I listened to the bizarre ordeal of Michelle Knight, the first of the three young ladies who were kidnapped for more than ten years by their own neighbor, Ariel Castro in Cleveland-Ohio. The Kidnapping was described by several news headlines as one of the most shocking in America’s History.
The vivid narration of the whole incident, how and where it happened and what she went through is so incomprehensible. Telling her side of the story as the first among the three on the Dr. Phil’ Show, Michelle who was 20 years at the time said although she lived every day hoping to be free someday and the thought of her son kept her going , but she could not believe it lasted for 11 years. She suffered brutal torture from this man.
She described how she was chained, beaten, raped, starved, left naked at the mercy of the cold weather and most sadly Castro forcing her to miscarry by punching her in the lower abdomen each time she became pregnant for five times.
When the story of their rescue by the police brook in the media, one question that everyone following the story kept asking was how can one be kidnap in her own area just few blocks away for that long and no one will notice anything despite police investigations and constant community search as well as annual vigils held to create the awareness of their missing.
Speaking out for the first time in an Exclusive interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, she recalled that on that fateful day in 2002 she was on her way to attend to some matter relating to her son who was just a toddler at the time with the social welfare department office. She stopped to ask for direction since she could not locate the place. Little did she know that Castro was eaves dropping on her. He followed her in his car, pulled over like a Good Samaritan and offered to give her a ride.
He later came up with an excuse of wanting to attend to his puppies and drop her off later since it was on the same route. Ariel Castro then lured her to come over to see the puppies and also offered to give one of the puppies to Michelle to be given to her son.
According to Michelle, that made her to get down from the car into his house in a broad day light. So she more or less walked willingly down to the dark basement of Ariel’s captivity of hell without knowing it was a trap. ‘When I got there, the puppies were not there, I asked him to let me go but he refused…that was when he started chaining me and I was chained like a fish” she described. It was indeed very disheartening to look at the chains, the pole she was tied to and the dirty rooms she lived all those years.
Despite the fact that the house was located in a closely knit area, he made it impossible for them to escape as he did not only threaten to kill them but he also subjected her to severe abuse each time she tried' ...i became the most hated one ... because he could not break me". In addition to all what she was going through, this monster mandated her to deliver Amanda Berry of her baby and was warned that failure to do so safely will result in their death, he threaten.
Although there were very little about her in media something she blame her family for, she said we had access to TV and we knew all about the annual vigils held by the families of Amanda Berry and Gina Dejesus but there was nothing we could do than hope for the best.
So with hope from thoughts of her son, that day came on May 6 2013 when Amanda fled the house while the door was presumably left unlocked for once by the captor and she made a 911 call to their rescue. Indeed the experience has left deep emotional wounds and physical damage to her sight among other things yet she survived as a victor, a strong woman and an inspiration for many families searching for their missing loved ones and those still living in such bondage‘… I wanted to come out as a victor and not his victim” she said.
Ariel Castro committed suicide by hanging in prison one month into his sentence He was arrested on the same day the women were finally freed and was charged two days later with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. Castro pleaded guilty to 937 criminal counts of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole, plus 1,000 years.
With tears in her eyes but beam of smile on her face Michelle described Castro as a coward for not being able to endure a gist of what he subjected them to instead, chose to commit suicide. An estimated of 2,300 children are missing every year in America.
In writing this article, my prayers and thoughts are with everyone in this situation and hopes no one live to suffer any more of what Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina Dejesus had to go through.

HEADMASTER CALLS FOR HELP FOR HIS PUPILS.

Thomas Owusu, headmaster of Ejumako Brofoyedo District Assemby Primary School in the Central Region of Ghana has called on the good people of his community particularly the District Chief Executive to come the aid of the school which is in a very poor state.
Lamenting about the plight of the school, the headmaster said it really break his heart to see little children who are willing to go to school are deprived of their basic right such as drinking water and place of convenient. He said due to lack of portable drinking water in the school, pupils have to abandon class while school is in section and go home any time their thirsty.
He added that this is increasing the rate of truancy in the school since teachers can not really stop any child from going home with such an excuse of seeking for water.
The headmaster recalled that one of the children was almost hit in a car crush when he was crossing the road to go home for drinking water. “Drinking water is not the only problem of the School but lack of classrooms is another worrying issue, there are not enough classrooms so we have combined two KG class but they over crowded so we really need help’ he stressed Thomas Owusu who spoke to Peace FM News today also pointed out that there are only few furniture in the school, forcing most of the children to sit on the bare floor during lessons. He humbly called on Government and philanthropist to come to the aid of the school in order to motivate the children who desire to be educated ‘…I see that these children are making every effort to be educated so we need to make life comfortable for them as they pursue their life goals. Ejumako Brofoyedo DA primary school like many other schools in Ghana lacks infrastructure and other basic social amenities and continues to appeal for help to better the lives of school children.

HOW MANY VICTORIA HAMMAH’S ARE STILL IN POLITICS?

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a letter to relieved Ms. Victoria Hamah Deputy Minister of Communication off her post. Although the President did not state any reason why she being sacked, the reason is not far- fetched . This came barely 24 hours after the release of an audio tape purported to be the voice of Deputy Minister saying her main aim of getting into politics is to make 1million dollars. Ms Victoria was secretly recorded shamelessly blabbing on phone to another female about her influence in the party and how easy it is to control powers in her party with money. As if that was not enough she also revealed how the party used their Lawyer allies such as Lawyer Tony Lithur to influence the supreme court decision in favour of ruling party. The Former Deputy Communication Minister was caught in the gossip web over the recent fracas between two other female Ministers at the Ministry of Gender and Social welfare headed by Nana Oye Lithur and her Deputy Minister, Racheal Nana Adwoa Appoh. Ms Hamah went on to describe Nana Adwoa as “No Body” but a hypocrate who pretends to be morally upright in the eyes of the public but very dirty within the party. However the most stricking aspect of the conversation is about her quest of acquiring money from politics. As infuriating and embarrassing the content of the tape may be, the issue has gained so much attention both locally and internationally because it has pop-up at a time the country finds itself in corruption crisis. Just few days ago, a Senior Member of Parliament of the ruling party who doubles as a member of “Government wisemen” Hon. Gbabin came out to complain about how bad government business is being handled and the way it has become impossible to reach the President to offer any advice on how to deal with the growing rate of corruption in the government. Following this, some members of his party descended heavily on him and called him all sort of names. So, dose this Victoria Hamah case vindicates Gbabin and many other opinion leaders who have been calling for a radical approach of handling corruption that has become a cancer and difficult for economic progress of the country? Another question is? How many of her type are still in office milking the nation and depriving the ordinary Ghanaian of their daily bread? And how many are making frantic effort by jumping from one media house to the other as social commentators and hiding behind party colours without any qualification only to enter into politics to amass wealth for the parochial interest. How many are yet to be expose and sacked like Victoria Hamah? Untill we find a way to fish-out all these selfish politicians and public officials to allow the good ones to work, Ghana is in serious trouble in the hands of these looth and share attitudes of such public figures. Anyway let us all be citizen vigilante to be bold and defend the good name of Ghana.

HALLOWEEN….MY STAY IN THE U.S

KNOCK! KNOCK!! There is someone knocking on my door. Who could it be I wondered since I was not expecting anyone this afternoon? I hesitantly head towards the door to check who was there. As I opened the door, I was greeted with a loud “trick or treat!!!!!” from some children in my neighborhood. They were dressed in all kinds of funny costumes. Then they stretched forward a candy basket which meant I am expected to drop in some candies. Their basket was already half filled with different kinds of candies. Oh yea today is Halloween, I quickly recollected because the whole of this month, everything around us is centered on this day. TV commercials, movies, talk shows and even items on display in the stores were centered on this day including food. This actually reminded me of how we use to go from house to house in my community in Ghana during Christmas to have treats from neighbors and even strangers. Dress in masquerades and Christmas apparels, we sing and chant “maame yabe wofie maye bibi kakra maye ko” literally meaning “ma’am we are in your house, give us something and we will go”. Indeed, as children in those days, every child looked forward to Christmas with high expectations and anticipation. Those times were really fun. It is sad that all those memorable moments are fading away so fast due to the fact that many people thinks it is simply old fashion. Anyway, back to my encounter with these beautiful kids at my door. As I said they were five in number, three girls and two boys with their ages ranging between 6 and 11 years old. After dropping in some candies from my dinning table into each of their baskets, they politely said “thank you”. Then I tried to find out from them in their opinion what this day is all about. They told me all kinds of interesting stories they know about Halloween. The striking one came from the 6 year old boy who was dressed like a black cat“…Halloween is the time we get to see spooky spirits like ghost, monsters and devils.” He said. They each told me why they chose a particular costume and the reason why they are pretending to be that character. On that note they all said ‘bye” and moved on to the next door. Apart from children going house to house for candies after school, the older people throw parties at night. Most of these parties are characterized by creepy and terrifying stuffs. One thing I also noticed is that Pumpkin is a major symbol of Halloween. It is usually sculptured into so many spooky faces. At this point, let me hastened to add that although Halloween is one of America’s biggest celebrations, not everyone believes in it. Those who don’t believe in it say it is superstition. The fact is, apart from the fun fair such occasions bring it is also a major economic booster for the country. The National Retail Federation –U.S last year quoted a survey conducted by BIGinsight that 7 in 10 Americans (71.5%) will get into the haunting Halloween mood and a total Halloween spending by estimation was expected to reach $8.0 billion. According to history, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

SOLAR ECLIPSE…GHANA WILL SEE IT AGAIN.

The last time Ghanaians witnessed an eclipse was in March 29th 2006. It was 66 years after the last one in 1947. The solar eclipse appeared in it total form to those viewing from Greater Accra, Central, Western, Eastern and Volta Regions while those in the other five Regions experienced a partial eclipse. Hundreds of tourist trooped into the country to join millions of Ghanaians to catch a glimpse of it. There was lots of public education for the general public on how and when it will occur. The media also created the awareness of protecting one’s eyes since viewing the eclipse with the naked eye to could result in major eye damages. The sales of a protective goggle for the viewing also became a big business venture. Stationed at Makola, the Central Business district at Accra as a filed reporter, I remember the sounding of the siren at the general post office to alert the public the moment it appeared. According to Experts on ABC Science website, it usually takes 100 to 200 years for one to predict when the next eclipse will occur the second time in a particular area. So for Ghana to experience one of nature’s beautiful phenomenon, for the second time within a period of 7 years is quite amazing. Could it be luck or just by chance? Well, be prepared if only you happen to be in Ghana to experience the only time in life when day and night embraces each other for a moment on 3th November 2013.

MEDICAL TEAM SCREENS ARRIVING HAJJ PILGRIMS

This year’s pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims took place amidst great fear around the world over the Middle East virus, a deadly virus that infected a number of pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia. As the first batch of Ghanaian pilgrims arrive in the country, medical research team from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ngouchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and Port Health are keeping a keen eye on them. Due to this, a medical screening and samples were taken from the first 319 pilgrims who arrived last night. The medical team comprising of bio-chemist from the above mentioned medical institutes are stationed at the Hajj village in Accra to make sure every individual is screened. Collected swabs from the mouths and noses of pilgrims by the team will be sent to the Ngouchi medical institute at the University of Ghana for scrutiny. The reports will be ready in 10 days. Although most of the people arrived with coughs, the medical reports whether or not one has contracted the corona virus (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome). Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca and the largest gathering of Muslim people in the world every year. It is one of the five pillars of Islam, and a religious duty which must be carried out by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so at least once in his or her lifetime.

GHANAIANS WARNED OF BOKO-HARAM AND AL-KAYIDA.

Two new hiplife rap songs dubbed “Al-kayida” and “Boko-Haram” introduced to the entertainment scene in Ghana recently is generating great concerns. Al-kayida just like the popular Azonto dance, is a social dance associated with the music “boys abre” literarily meaning boys are tired. The lyrics relays emphasis on the socio-economic hardship the youth are facing in the country. Interestingly, the video of this song features Kwadjo Nkansah aka Lil Win, a prominent local comedian and an actor. His twist and turns of the dance and his fusion of rapping makes it very hilarious. The writer of Boko-Haram also tells his ordeal as a resident student in a community in Nigeria which was attacked by Boko-Haram an Islamic jihadist militant organization based in Nigeria with links to Al-Qeada and Alshabab. But for his flair in rapping and his smartness of singing to his captors, he would have been killed. The song writer in the music says he was released after singing this Boko-Haram song to the militants. This song just like the Al-kayida dance has laid its grip on almost every Ghanaian particularly the youth. As a result, some concerned citizens are calling for the ban of these music and dance. Some of the raised concerns are that these groups are noted for violence across the globe and continue to perpetuate atrocities against humanity; therefore anything associated with either of them must be treated with seriousness and not to trivialized them into social entertainment. Others also believe that entertaining Boko-Haram in Ghana might attract these militant to influence the youth to join them. Some have also argued that embracing such dances in to Ghanaian society relegates traditional dances such as Adowa, Kpanlogo and even highlife to the background. However, commenting on the issue on PeaceFM , an executive member of Musician Union of Ghana, Okyeame Kwame says he finds nothing wrong with the song. He explained that like most songs, musicians tell stories through their songs and it could be on any issue “music is expressive and it is usually based on what the song writer feel about a particular issue”. Okyeame Kwame however noted that he is a bit troubled by the Al-kayida dance rather than the Boko-Haram song and hope something done about it.

INVESTMENT IN NUTRITION IS KEY...WFP

Today the World commemorate World Food Day, one of United Nations annual events. As this day brings to mind, a focus on food. And to take a look at who gets food not just food, but balance and nutritious diet. It is estimated that, more than 842 million people(1 in every 8 people in the world) suffer from chronic hunger. Many more people on daily basis wake up to face a day of not knowing where and how the days meal is coming from, more of these people are children and women. Although each year this day is highlighted yet it has not created the needed awareness it needs to reduce hunger rather, hunger related problems keep mounting up across the globe. In view of this, the Executive Director of World Food Program, Ertharin Cousin has noted that Prioritizing nutrition is a major investment sector in our collective global future. Therefore investors must place equal emphasis on food and agriculture. He further indicated that under nourished girls and boys face barriers in health, in schools performance which later affect their work efficiency. It always affect their human potential capacity to contribute to the society in which they live in. Ertharin Cousin made this known in a press release as the World commemorates World Food Day today. He said if the global community invested $1.2 billion per year on reducing micronutrient deficiencies over a-five year period, there will be much improvement in health care delivery as well as fewer child deaths and this will generate an increase in future earnings worth $15.3 billion.

MODERATE FUNERAL..PROF AWOONOR LEADS THE WAY.

The late Prof. Awoonor who was killed in a gun attack in Kenya on Saturday, September 21, 2013 was laid to rest over the weekend. Not only did he live his life as a great teacher but even in death he still gives us lessons. The mortal remains was cremated in accordance with the Professors wishes.A family source said Prof. Awoonor made some declarations on how he should be buried upon his death. He declared that the pre-burial ceremony for him should not last more than one hour. The late professor had also declared that there should not be wailing and crying at the ceremony and also indicated a particular spot at his home town, Weta in the Volta Region, where he would have a “final and eternal rest”. Guided by these wishes, the family in planning his funeral and burial rites organized a solemn ceremony to send home Professor Kofi Awoonor, the immediate past Chairman of the Council of State The strictly private ceremony, held on the wishes of the late Professor, was attended by his family members, some government officials and representatives of political parties. In a solemn way the ceremony was characterized by pouring of Libation, a prayer by Rev. F.M. Amevenku and the singing of the Methodist hymn, “When Peace Like a River”. A selection of poems authored by the late Prof. Awoonor like “ What Brought Me Here”, “Across a New Dawn”, Those Gone Ahead” and “Up in the Garden” were recited at the funeral by his family members. In times where funerals in Ghana has become extravagant and event of socialization , showing class, wealth and ones stature in life, he decided to be buried in a humbling and simple way. Something Ghanaians need to learn and emulate. The death of a dear one calls for mourning so let us stop the funeral fun-fairs of eating, drinking and dancing and respect their memory so they can rest in perfect Peace.

PRAYERS VS TERRORISM

Should there be a terrorist plot against Ghana and indeed any other Afican country like it happened in Kenya will it take prayer or adequate security measures to avert any such incident? As reported earlier last week, the British Government issued a security alert to its citizens and visitors travelling to Ghana of an eminent terrorist attack. Stating that there is underling threat from terrorist against Ghana , “ Around 70,000 British nationals visits Ghana every year. While most visits are trouble free, violent crime can occur at any time. Be particularly vigilant in public areas and take care when traveling by road”. The Statement specifically noted that there may be localized outbreak of civil unrest on short notice in the Northern Region of Ghana. This was published on 26th September 2013 on UK’s government website www.gov.uk and in fact is deemed current even as at the time of publishing this article. The British government further advised that anyone visiting Ghana should take a comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Although it did not state the reason of the possible attack, it is believed that Ghana has become a target due to her involvement in a military operations Mali. Interestingly, Prophet T.B Joshua of the Synagogue of all nation church with its headquarters in Nigeria is reported to have added his “prophetic” voice to this caution by calling on his congregation to fast and pray against a terrorist plot which will involve two West African countries. Refusing to mention which those two countries are, he called for a re-enforcement at state institutions such the legislature since according to him such places are the main targets. The Prophet says God revealed it to him. But the question is, is it about prayers? If that is the solution then this is where I say Ghana has no problem at all. In Ghana today, prayers have become more like a national affair and a daily life style of the people. There are many religious groups scattered all over the country. Unlike security post or police stations, prayer centers are found virtually in almost every suburb, community, town and cities. In fact every corner of the country is flooded with churches and mosques. Just to mention but a few, an intercessory group such as “Aglow “( a non-denominational women prayer group) on regular bases meet every last Saturday of each month. This prayer session goes on simultaneously in every regional capital of the country with the national one held in Accra at the independence square. There is also “All Believers All Night” which is organized by one of Ghana’s prominent radio preachers, Rev. Owusu Ansah. The program which rotates in various selected churches is also held every last Friday of each month. This late night 6 hour program does not only take place in the church auditorium, it is also broadcast live on all the media networks of Multi-Media Group of companies and its international affiliates as well. In addition to the above mentioned are numerous church activities such as crusades, revival and prayer conferences by organized different bodies that I cannot mention. Most of these meetings do not end without a prayer for the peace and stability of the country and in fact for the entire sub-regions. The Muslim community also has their regular prayers especially the Friday prayers at the central mosque in Accra places greater emphasis on the peace of Ghana through the prayers. Talk of those other religion such as the traditionalist led by the chiefs, they are all praying one way or the other for God to continue to sustain the peace Ghanaians are enjoying. This became more evident in the just ended electoral dispute. Every notable religious group came out to pray for the land and for most Ghanaians, it is prayers that sustains Ghana’s peace and political tolerance. Therefore as for Ghanaians fasting and praying as a solution to avert a terrorist attack, It would not be a big issue because it appears that is what the people know to do best. Ghanaians apply “Nyame beye’ literarily meaning God will do it to every life situation. But when it comes to national security, well there is very little i can say about that. frankly I don’t know how prepared is Ghana’s national security system and how it can meet the pressure or even prevent a terrorist attack. However, with an assurance from the President of his security institutions readiness in case of any such incident, all one can hope is for Ghana or any other country for that matter is spared of anymore attack. Terrorism has claimed too many precious lives and it is about time we all make a it point to stop it occurrences. Let us make this world a better place.

A YOUNG ICON FOR GHANA

It is a Saturday morning and as I flipped through the TV channels a proggrame on NBC caught my attention. It is "The Young Icon" one of America's TV shows which celebrates children who are doing exploit with their talents in various forms. It was a 14 year old Tyler Page who was telling his story of how he is helping kids in Ghana- West Africa. According to him, he was watching one of Oprah's shows at age 9 with his mother about children trafficked into child labour to work in fishing communities that he felt he should do something to help. Narrating his story on the Young Icons, Tyler said he felt very sad that children of his age are mistreated and made to work as adult under extreme hazardous conditions. He then decided with the permission from his Mum to start raising funds by selling his toys and other items in a garage sales and car washing etc with his friends to save some of these children. That led him to establish a Non-Profit Organization called Kids Helping Kids. He thought he would try to raise $240, the amount it would take a one to rescue a Ghanaian child for one year. In 6 months, they raised $19,000! an amount much more than the 240 they expected. And by a year later, they had raised $50,000! However he felt the need to do more because he knew there are many more children to be recued. So far through the help of other philanthropists and some volunteers,he has realized his dream and has gone to the aid of several children in Ghana. Realising his simple dream of raising money to save just a kid turned into a project gave him the urge to do more. Kids Helping Kids dose not only save these children, the also put them in schools and provide them with basic needs such as school uniforms, books bag packs among others.
Now though as a teenager who lives his life as any other kid, he is a Young Icon whose life is an inspiration. "people tell me I'm an inspiration but I don't feel like it..." he humbly said.Putting smiles on the faces of these children is his way of life. Tyler hopes to raise $500,000 to save more children not only in Ghana but in other African countries as well. He also expressed his future plans of building a center of hope for these under privileged children. His story like many other NGOs in the Area of helping Children particularly the needy caught my attention. I have worked as a journalist in the field of child labour and child trafficking and I know what it means to give hope and put a smile on the faces of these children who through no fault of theirs are made to work against their will while their childhood is stolen away from them. This article is to encourage Tyler Page of Kids Helping Kids for his good works in Ghana.

THE AL-SHABAB, A POLITICAL ORGANISATION OR A RELIGION?

I have read a lot of articles and comments on the internet as well as the social media concerning the barbaric and grotesque attack at the Kenyan West gate shopping mall on Saturday, 21 August 2013, which had claimed at least 62 lives according to the guardian report: "Kenya's interior minister Joseph Ole Lenku said that it was unlikely that any more hostages were being held in the mall where the attack killed at least 62 people, including at least six Britons". Victims came from many countries including Britain, Australia, Canada, France, China, India, Ghana and the Netherlands. For Ghana, we have lost an illustrious son Kofi Awoonor Williams; a poet an author, diplomat, academic and a former chairman of council of state. May your untimely soul rest in peace and for the mind that masterminded the mysterious gun never have peace on this earth and the hand that pulled the trigger be torn to shreds. Those idle brains who clandestine their acts under the umbrella of religion knows nothing but misconstrues the scriptures. The more I read them the more I become sad and sad. Then I begin to think and ask God a simple question, when is the judgment day? Why is God not giving instant judgment and to punish those who takes the lives of their fellow innocent human beings? are we safe in this world of ours? I had a heated argument with some of my colleagues the other day concerning wrong doers and the judgment day. My point was that God should have made heaven and hell visible to mankind for at least it will instill much fear into the hearts of men when they think evil. Their point was also that no matter how horrible hell will look like if it is visible, some people will still opt to go there (hell) and will therefore do evil. God has actually hidden something from us I concluded. Man do not believes God's word, it is a fact, not even the religious leaders, some of them rattled the scriptures with their tongue not in their hearts and when they retire to bed they think differently. Some of the comments or reactions that at times we hear from our religious leaders on sensitive religious issues only add more confusion to our already blogged mind on religion, disgusting and leaves much to be desired. So the question again is, are we being deceived or mislead? It is a fact again that majority of people in the world (with the exception of Africans because we believe in the goodness of everything the Whites brought) believes that the scriptures were written by men and they were NOT even inspired by God to write it but something to deceive. Yes, you can call me a shallow thinker, an atheist or whatever for I will not take a religious stance here but as a social commentator, I free my mind of all impurities with impunity. Just like my friend's article on GhanaWeb yesterday, The Al-Shabab, the ugly side of religion, he was attacked from all corners from both Muslims and Christians, chided and some calling him names just because he expressed his opinion on religion. Why are we so fixated on religion like that? Isn't it a delusion that we believe.....? I concur with my friends words "... none of the founders of these so-called religions ever preached based on religious followership. They all preached on the love for one’s neighbor, tolerance, and peace". So where is the love? Where is the peace of your religion? The scriptures cannot walk and talk peace, it is you who have to practice what you preach! - Peace. Whether the scriptures were written by man or not, has religion not done more good than harm? Is Al-Shabab a religion or a political organisation? When the name "Al-shabab" is mention, what readily comes to mind in sequence is Arabic language - Islam - Muslims - suicide bombers and terrorists. Is everything in Arabic Islamic? And therefore must be perpetuated by Muslims? I do not want to defend any religion but help me distressed my boggled mind, where do rebels get their funds from? There must be someone facilitating their activities. Is it from the politician or from a religious body? It is an undeniable fact that both the Quran and the Bible have verses or chapters that if we want to follow them or put them into practice we will only end up harming ourselves and denying peace in our existence, nonetheless there are avalanche of chapters and verses in our scriptures that speak and teaches love, peace, unity and forgiveness among mankind. Why chose to practice the few ambiguous ones that never makes the world a better place to be? I came across a farcical article purported to have been reported by one Elijah Lamau to the BBC on the shooting incidence inside the mall, that the gunmen had told Muslims to leave and said non-Muslims would be targeted and that the gunmen further said, “If you are a Muslim, stand up. We’ve come to rescue you.” “The Muslims left with their hands up.” Why did the others also not stand up and raise their hands and left free since proclaiming as a Muslim by standing up and raising your hand could set you free? Or they wanted to defend their religion? This is not convincing in all human senses. It is sensational journalism and nothing else. I was expecting to read something like they (the gunmen) inspected their ID card to confirm their Muslim names before letting them go. Gruesome attacks likes this and the like of the activities Boko haram should be condemned in totality rather than attributing it to the believes of a religion, but for me it is more political than religious.
